Elemental Incense FAQ
What is the difference between standard sticks and backflow cones? ▼
Standard sticks release smoke that rises upwards. Backflow cones are designed with a hollow centre; when lit on a special burner, the smoke pulls downwards to create a beautiful waterfall or mist effect.
How long does a single incense stick burn for? ▼
Most of our hand-rolled sticks burn for approximately 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the thickness and the airflow in your room.
Are your incense sticks hand-rolled or machine-made? ▼
We prioritise hand-rolled incense made using traditional masala methods. This ensures a higher concentration of natural resins, herbs, and essential oils for a cleaner, longer-lasting scent.
What is smudging and how do I use a smudge stick? ▼
Smudging is an ancient ritual used to cleanse the energy of a space. Light the end of your Sage or Palo Santo stick, let it flame for a moment, then blow it out. Move the smoke around your room, focusing on corners and doorways.
Is it safe to leave incense burning unattended? ▼
No. Always treat incense like a candle. Never leave it unattended and ensure it is placed on a heat-resistant burner away from curtains, drafts, and flammable materials.
Why is my backflow burner not creating a waterfall effect? ▼
Backflow burners require still air. If there is a draft from a window or a fan, the smoke will scatter. Ensure the hole in the cone is perfectly aligned with the hole in the burner for the best flow.
Do I need a special holder for rope incense? ▼
Yes. Rope incense (often from Nepal) should be hung from a specific hook holder or laid on a bed of non-flammable ash or sand to ensure it burns evenly and safely.
Can I reuse a smudge stick or Palo Santo? ▼
Absolutely. You don’t have to burn the whole stick at once. Once you are finished, press the glowing end into a heat-proof bowl or sand to extinguish it. You can relight it whenever you need to cleanse your space again.
Are your incense products natural? ▼
We curate incense that uses natural bamboo sticks, resins, and botanicals. We avoid dipped incense that uses harsh chemical accelerants, providing you with a more authentic and mindful aroma.
What is the best way to clean my incense burner? ▼
For wooden holders, simply tip the ash into the bin. For ceramic backflow burners, you may notice a slight oily residue from the cones; this can be easily wiped away with a damp cloth and a little mild soap.
